Flametails - Species Guide

This is a simple guide to my original species: Flametails.
This is an open species, you are free to make your own.

I am not strict about these, so if you'd like to do something different that is OK.
For example, if you want a flametail with an angry/spiteful personality then it's totally fine!
Or if you want them to be really good at magic, then that's fine too!

As long as you keep the general species info in mind, I'm happy.

However, there are rules. You will find them written below the guide.
(And you don't have to ask if you can make one, go right ahead!)

Free flametail base:

Flametails are part of the fey folk and are thus creatures of magic.

Most of them choose to live in the human realm (as it is far safer in our world than their original one), usually in smaller societies and groups that are scattered all over the world. What they all have in common is that they tend to stay close to humans, so you will find Flametails living in both big cities as well as small villages. Whichever strikes their fancy.

Like most fey folk they have the ability to choose whether they want to be seen by humans or not, they can manipulate the veil enough to hide parts of their bodies as well (which would usually be their ears and tail, in order to not draw attention to themselves). However, they do not possess any other magical talents besides that naturally. They can learn to master some sort of magic though if they so wish, but it would take time and effort. They aren't naturally gifted in such things. 

Temperament

Most Flametails tend to be quite gentle in nature and avoid getting into fights if they can (naturally there are exceptions). According to their culture and social norms one does not show anger or aggression, such behavior is frowned upon as they prefer to solve conflicts in a diplomatic manner.  However, expressing other emotions such as happiness and enthusiasm are met with approval.

Their tails - Looks

A Flametails tail fire is a visual expression of their very souls. The brighter it burns the more energy the Flametail in question has, and the smaller the flame the lower the energy. The brightness and size of the flame is an indication to their general health, but it also reflects the emotions of each individual. The flame can also grown in size and brightness if the Flametail is feeling extra happy and alert. 

For most part it will remain the same color, its neutral, but when the Flametail is feeling something strongly it can gain a different shade. The neutral color in itself doesn’t mean anything in particular. The meaning of the  emotional colors can vary a bit between each individual, depending on their neutral color as well as personality, but in general the colors they display are the following:

• Black: Sorrow, depression.
  
• Gray: Fear, hopelessness, negativity.
  
• White: Happiness, pride, hope.
  
• Red: Anger, aggression.
  
• Pink:  Tenderness, contentment, love.
  
• Blue: Calculating, logical, thoughtful, focus.
  

  

Their tails - Life and meaning

The flame is very hard to put out but once it is then the Flametail will quite likely die from it, few survives and are forever weakened by it.

Flametails are not born with burning tails and enter the world fast asleep. This is because their souls has yet to be awakened and will only do so when their tail are lit. This is achieved by touching the baby Flametail’s tail to their mother and/or father’s tail fire, allowing the flames to spread to them. This can be done by any Flametail, but the parents’ doing it is quite important. It connects their souls with their offspring and creates a family bond. If a couple would be forced to give up their child for whatever reason they will not light their tail, but let the child’s new parents do so in order for the bond to form between them. A Flametail can survive in its sleep for about a week after its birth without its tail flame.

It’s considered an intimate gesture for two Flametails to let their flames join together. It is very common for lovers, but it’s also a gesture acceptable for close family and friends. Such as parent and child. It creates a connection between their souls.
